Lindsay and Bryan met in college. Both were working toward careers in education, and they shared an interest in someday adopting. Their relationship progressed, they married, and eventually started their family. Between the births of their sons, Cayden and Cameron, they attended a class about foster care at their church. They listened carefully but did not think fostering was the right fit for their family. As their boys got older, they became more independent. Lindsay describes their life as “comfortable.”

One day, Bryan and Cayden took clothes to one of Bryan’s friends, who had begun fostering. While the adults talked, Cayden played with the little boy. Bryan saw his son’s care for the younger child and the fun they had as they played together.

Bryan and Lindsay already knew God had gifted both sons with a heart for others, and when they returned home, Bryan told Lindsay he felt God was telling him it would be a waste not to use that gift and all their family’s gifts and blessings, to help kids who needed a family.

A teacher at Bryan’s school recommended PCHAS and shared her positive experiences with the agency. They reached out in January 2021 and began learning about the requirements and expectations for foster parents. During their pre-service training classes, Bryan and Lindsay saw the needs of kids in foster care and could feel God opening their hearts to things that had previously made them reluctant. They read the book Foster the Family by Jamie Finn, and started praying about and preparing for how they would navigate the losses that come with successful foster care reunification.

They grew in confidence and decided to start by fostering one child (or maybe a sibling group of two kids) under seven. Bryan and Lindsay finished all the requirements for verification just before the holidays began in 2021. Bryan was looking forward to a week of rest during a hectic semester, but on the same day they turned in their final documents, PCHAS reached out about a three-year-old girl named Rylee-Rae and her 11-month-old brother Daniel.*
