Families who foster at The Foster Care Village in Itasca, Texas provide the same care as Foster & Adoptive families who do so from their own residence. The Village is one way PCHAS stewards its more than 120-year legacy of caring for children on our campus in Itasca, and it affords greater opportunities for sibling groups to remain together in our spacious homes.
One of the things Caleb and Jeanne love most about fostering at The Foster Care Village is the community around them. Every neighbor understands what their life is like. The situations that are hard to explain to others? They're normal here. The questions you can't easily Google? You can ask the person next door.
"It's nice to be able to ask your neighbors for advice," they say, "and all of the staff are right there on campus." That kind of built-in support gives them peace of mind that makes it much more possible to care for children from hard places.
Their oldest daughter Vanessa has her own perspective on what makes their home special. She spent time in a group home before joining their family, and she's noticed the difference: Caleb and Jeanne give their children something she didn't always have — normalcy. "It feels like a family here," she says.
And the feeling is mutual. Caleb and Jeanne are quick to credit their kids. "They're so hospitable and understanding," they said. "They're slow to get weirded out by different behaviors or needs, and we can see how it's been good for them — how they're able to empathize with and encourage others."
