You’ve probably heard us say that there’s a huge need for foster and adoptive families in the communities we serve – especially families for school-aged kids and siblings. We say it a lot because it’s true!
We’re on a mission to find a family for every child who needs one, and we believe that families considering fostering or adopting deserve honest answers to all their questions. The need never ends, so we are always meeting new people. The new folks need to understand how it all works, and they deserve reliable info, so the cycle goes round and round. To keep us on track and ensure families have easy access, we have Foster Care & Adoption Guides who are ready and able to help.
Meet Travis Cutbirth and Travis Jones (for real – two different guys – one name). Together, the Travises raise awareness by writing articles for our website and sharing them on Facebook, advertising through Billboards and other sources, hosting weekly Online Info Sessions, participating in local events, and they’ve even launched an online store to raise aWEARness of the need for more families in the Texoma area. When families want to know more about adopting or fostering with PCHAS, they connect one-on-one with their Guide, who answers questions and assesses the family’s match with our program.
Travis Cutbirth is the Foster Care & Adoption Guide for families in north Texas who live within 45-60 minutes of our offices in Irving, Itasca, Wichita Falls or Graham. He also works with families wanting to learn more about fostering at The Foster Care Village in Itasca, Texas.
Travis Jones is the Foster Care & Adoption Guide for families in the Houston area who live within 45-60 minutes of our office in Cypress.
The Travises navigate an interesting work schedule to stay available for families in the earliest stages of exploring adoption and foster care. They manage their stress with a healthy dose of jokes and gifs on a lengthy Teams Chat thread. Both like people and enjoy the work for similar reasons. Cutbirth says, “My favorite thing about my job is getting to meet new families. I like hearing their goals and seeing them live them out.” He enjoys catching up with families at holiday parties and other events and seeing them live out their dreams. Similarly, Jones says, “Every family reaches out for a different reason, but there are usually common threads and trends. Foster and adoptive families make up a very small percentage of people in our communities, so it is incredible to see families connect with others as they get started and realize they have a lot in common; they aren’t ‘weird’ or ‘crazy’ for wanting to help kids in need of family.”
Cutbirth says he wishes more people understood that adoptive and foster families are normal people just like everyone else. “We don’t need perfect people,” he says, “we’re looking for people who want to be family for children who need one! Whatever stage of life you are in, you can be a great foster parent. We have incredible families who are empty-nesters, single parents, first-time parents, people with kids at home, …basically every kind of family.” Jones followed up by saying, “If it breaks your heart to think about kids being removed due to abuse or neglect and not having a safe, nurturing foster family ready to take them in – let’s talk! We need families, and we want to include you. We will treat you with respect, protect your information, and do our best to help you find another way to serve if your situation is not a good match for fostering or adopting with PCHAS. Just talk to us, and we will do everything possible to help you.”
If you are a normal person who cares about kids, we want to get to know you! That sounds like almost everyone you know, right? That’s because it takes all of us. Here are five ways for you to connect with us:
