Breaking Barriers to Mental Health Care
Access to mental health care is a growing concern in many communities, and Waxahachie, Texas, is no exception. Recognizing the urgent need for accessible services, Presbyterian Children's Homes and Services (PCHAS) has opened a new Counseling Center at 300 Brookside Road, Waxahachie, TX 75167. This center provides no-cost mental health services to individuals and families who might otherwise struggle to afford care.
With 27% of households in Ellis County facing financial hardship, many families are forced to prioritize necessities like housing and food over mental health support. The new center aims to remove this financial barrier, ensuring that everyone—regardless of income or insurance status—has access to professional therapy and counseling.
Meeting the Mental Health Needs of the Community
Cynthia Hileman, North Texas Regional Director for PCHAS, emphasized the importance of this initiative:
“The need for accessible mental health care in our community is undeniable. Many individuals and families lack insurance and cannot afford therapy, leaving them without crucial support. Our goal is to remove financial barriers and provide quality care to those who need it most.”
The Waxahachie Counseling Center offers a wide range of mental health services for individuals of all ages, including:
✅ Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
✅ Grief Counseling
✅ Play Therapy for Children
✅ Trauma-Informed Care
Additionally, faith-based counseling is available for those who wish to incorporate their spirituality into their healing process.
Making an Immediate Impact
Since its opening, the Counseling Center has already served 22 clients, receiving referrals from local schools, nonprofits, and community agencies. The center's licensed therapists are dedicated to creating a safe and welcoming space, where individuals can seek help without stigma or financial burden.
Currently, the center is able to offer all services at no cost, thanks to funding from the North Texas Behavioral Health Authority (NTBHA).
