Ensuring every child in foster care has a loving, nurturing family this year requires something from all of us. Whether you are interested in fostering or adopting, supporting families that do, or advocating in your community, it takes all of us to make sure there is a great family for every child. In 2025 the greatest need will be foster and adoptive families for:

“Older” Children

There are not enough families for school-age children, so even 6-year-olds are labeled “older” and “harder to place.” As children age, so does their risk of sleeping in a hotel or shelter when a family can’t be found. Teens experience this crisis at an alarming rate. Kids never outgrow the need for family. Could you be the family they need?

Sibling Groups

We receive requests for foster families for groups of 2, 3, 4 or more children of all ages every day. Sadly, the chances of brothers and sisters staying together decrease for each added sibling. These connections are vital to a child’s story and are some of the most important relationships in a child’s life. Will you consider fostering siblings so they can stay together?

Minority Children

In Texas, 12-13% of children are African American. We would expect to see the same percentage when we look at the foster care system, but that's not the case. Actually, 24% of children in foster care in Texas are African American. All children deserve a family willing to help them stay connected to their story and grow in understanding of their culture and heritage. Are you willing to help?

Children with Special Needs

Children enter foster care after they’ve experienced trauma in the form of abuse or neglect. When they also have physical, mental or cognitive special needs, it is even harder to find a foster family. Could your family be a safe place for children with special needs?

You can help! Consider becoming the foster or adoptive family these children need, joining the support team for foster and adoptive families you know or being a strong voice for children and families in your community.

Join a Foster Care & Adoption Online Info Session to get started. In one hour, you will learn how it all works in Texas and hear about resources and support that help foster and adoptive families thrive.
