For 23 years, Mary has been the unsung hero of PCHAS, ensuring the lights stayed on, the bills were paid, and, most importantly, everyone got their paycheck on time. As a staff accountant, Mary found joy not in the spotlight but in the quiet satisfaction of keeping things running smoothly. With her legendary dependability, Mary jokes that no one ever missed a paycheck on her watch.
She was drawn to the agency’s mission and found it a perfect fit for her passion for nonprofits. From navigating the merger in 2018 to switching payroll companies with grace, Mary tackled every challenge with her signature poise. “I like change,” she admits, “It keeps you adaptable.
Mary recalls countless lighthearted moments in the accounting department, where her team mastered the art of turning stressful days into belly laughs. “Sometimes, you just need to get a little silly,” she shares with a grin. These moments, often highlighted by spontaneous desk pranks, strengthened the team’s bond and provided much-needed stress relief.
While Mary credits her first supervisor, John Hogan, for mentoring her, it’s clear she’s been a mentor herself. As she prepares for retirement, Mary is training two new employees to ensure her legacy of excellence carries on.
What’s next for Mary? She’s trading in spreadsheets for paintbrushes. Retirement will give her time to dive into art classes and explore her love of painting. But the real masterpiece in Mary’s life is just around the corner: her first grandchild is on the way!
Congratulations on your well-earned retirement, Mary! Here’s to years filled with creativity, laughter, and the pitter-patter of tiny feet. Thank you for 23 incredible years at PCHAS—your dedication has left an indelible mark on the agency and all who worked with you.
