At Presbyterian Children’s Homes and Services (PCHAS), we are deeply grateful for the congregations that walk alongside us to support families in need. One of our cherished partners is St. John’s Presbyterian Church in Houston, Texas, led by Pastor Jon Burnham. Their dedication to the Single Parent Family Program has helped countless families feel supported, encouraged, and empowered.

A Shared Mission and Vision

St. John’s expresses its purpose on their website: “to glorify God by making disciples and meeting human needs.” They also describe themselves as “a place of healing, compassion, grace and love, where real people can come and share authentically with each other.” Their mission aligns perfectly with PCHAS' commitment to empowering families, and we are thankful for their partnership in bringing faith into action every day.

Helping Bring the Single Parent Family Program to Life

St. John’s support goes far beyond financial contributions. Because of their partnership, PCHAS was able to establish on-site housing for families in our Single Parent Family Program, providing parents with a safe, supportive place to live while accessing essential resources. We are truly grateful for their generosity and hospitality, which have a meaningful and lasting impact on the families we serve.

What the Partnership Looks Like

  • Providing space and housing: St. John’s offers physical space for PCHAS staff and houses residents on their campus.
  • Supporting single parents: The church’s ongoing commitment ensures parents navigating the challenges of raising children alone receive practical and emotional support.
  • Building community: St. John’s writes, “Real people who worship and serve Jesus Christ with no frills.” Their welcoming approach helps families feel truly valued.
  • Faith in action: Their website notes, “We are Christians. Presbyterian Christians. No perfect people required. Just honest seekers willing to be formed.” That same principle guides how families experience the Single Parent Family Program.

The Impact on Families

Through this partnership, families gain access to stable housing, resources, and a supportive faith-based community. Living on St. John’s campus provides safety, connection, and belonging. The collaboration is a beautiful example of how churches and social service organizations can work together to create lasting, positive change. We are grateful for every way St. John’s walks alongside PCHAS and the families we serve.

Looking Ahead

We are excited to continue growing the program and reaching more families. Together with Pastor Jon Burnham and the St. John’s congregation, we hope to deepen relationships, provide more support, and inspire other congregations to engage in meaningful, faith-driven service.
