Each year, the Itasca Foster Care Village hosts its annual Summer Olympics, an inspiring and heartwarming event that brings together children, families, and volunteers. With a focus on fun, friendly competition, and camaraderie, the day is packed with activities designed to promote teamwork, build self-esteem, and encourage physical activity.
“I loved having an opportunity to invite churches to be involved with our children and families... It’s always amazing to see the Itasca campus, feel the sense of community, and meet all the people who make that sense of community possible—parents, kids, staff, volunteers, and friends."Maria Shupe, Development Officer
Children and families can enjoy swimming, basketball, a thrilling obstacle course, a baking competition, and engaging performances during the Summer Olympics. There is something for everyone! The day's excitement is matched only by the supportive atmosphere that fills the Itasca campus.
The event's highlight is the awards ceremony, where prizes are distributed for victory and participation, encouraging a spirit of inclusivity. The winning team can celebrate their victory with a $35 gift card!
The day powerfully reminds us how events like the Summer Olympics can foster a sense of belonging and togetherness. These moments of connection help reinforce the bonds between families, staff, and the wider community, making the Itasca Foster Care Village a truly special place.
This success of the Summer Olympics would not be possible without the dedicated volunteers and participants who came together to make this day one to remember.
