The recent passing of Jim Pitts on Saturday, July 20, 2024, marked an emotional moment for Presbyterian Children’s Homes and Services (PCHAS). His dedication, influence, and passion for the well-being of children and families have left a lasting legacy that will be remembered for years.
A Distinguished Career
Jim Pitts served as a Texas State Representative, where he made significant contributions as the Chair of the Appropriations Committee. Known statewide, Jim was a great influence, yet he always focused on local communities. His tenure was marked by his ability to connect with people, listen sincerely, and advocate effectively for those in need.
Dedication to PCHAS
Jim's commitment to PCHAS spanned multiple terms on the board, starting in the 1990s. As one of our longest-serving board members, Jim played a crucial role in shaping the organization’s direction and impact.
David Thompson, President of PCHAS, recalls, "Jim’s service with PCHAS impacted his work as a state representative as he advocated for the needs of children and families across the State of Texas. It always struck me that Jim was a great listener. You knew that Jim cared about your story or your perspective, and he always took time to hear it. Jim has had a lasting impact on PCHAS, and we will miss him."
A Heart for Children
Jim's interest in helping children who experienced abuse or neglect was evident in his actions and advocacy. He often spoke about the importance of supporting children and families in need and worked tirelessly to bring these issues to the forefront of state policy. His visits to our Waxahachie and Itasca programs, where he connected with children and families, highlighted his deep commitment to making a difference at a personal level.

Throughout his career, Jim used his influence as a state representative to benefit PCHAS and other organizations focused on children's welfare. He was known for hosting board dinners, facilitating connections, and fostering an environment where everyone felt heard and valued. His friendly demeanor and sincere interest in others made him a beloved figure in the community.
Jim Pitts was a leader, lawyer, and dedicated advocate for children and families. His legacy of service, compassion, and commitment will continue to inspire those who knew him and those who benefit from the causes he championed.
In Memoriam
Jim's battle with cancer and his passing have left a void in the hearts of many. As we remember and celebrate his life, we are reminded of the profound impact one individual can have on the lives of countless others. Jim Pitts' legacy at PCHAS and beyond will be remembered with deep respect and gratitude. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 31st, 2024, at 4:00 PM at Nelson University (Formally Known as Southwestern Assembly God University) (1260 Savell Cir, Waxahachie, TX 75165). A reception will be held on Wednesday, July 31st, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Waxahachie Civic Center (2000 Civic Center Ln, Waxahachie, TX 75165).
