Presbyterian Children’s Homes and Services (PCHAS) is proud to announce that the Karyn Purvis Institute of Child Development (KPICD) of Texas Christian University (TCU) has inducted the organization as a TBRI® Ambassador Organization.
In January, PCHAS was initiated as a TBRI® Ambassador Organization with four other agencies committed to making a difference in the lives of vulnerable children and families.
According to the Karyn Purvis Institute of Child Development, TBRI® Ambassador Organizations are identified as key partners who have long-term relationships with the Purvis Institute and are furthering its mission systematically using TBRI® or Trust-Based Relational Intervention.
“I’m extremely excited for PCHAS to become an ambassador organization with KPICD. For over a decade, PCHAS has used TBRI® as our model of caregiving and has implemented its strategies in a variety of contexts: foster care, adoption, in-home services, mentoring, and residential services,” said Justin Hentschel, training specialist and TBRI® practitioner and mentor at PCHAS. “Through this partnership with KPICD, we have greater opportunities to deepen our understanding and use of TBRI®to provide better care and support to children and families in need.”
As stated by KPICD, TBRI® is an attachment-based, trauma-informed intervention that is designed to meet the complex needs of vulnerable children. TBRI uses empowering principles to address physical needs, connecting principles to address relational needs, and correcting principles to disarm fear-based behaviors.
Dr. Danica Knight, Rees-Jones Director of KPICD, said, “It’s clear to us that PCHAS embodies and is committed to sharing our vision - to bring hope and healing to children around the world. PCHAS helps to make this vision a reality by amplifying our impact and doing so with integrity, creativity, and tenacity.”
KPICD also states that TBRI® prioritizes connection as a path to healing for children and families who have experienced trauma. It has been used across a variety of contexts, and TBRI® Ambassadors have the distinction of using TBRI® to bring deep change in systems of care and practice.
