Crystal Kirby is an analyst by nature. When she considered joining the staff of Presbyterian Children’s Homes and Services, it was a three-hour drive to the interview. But her passion for serving families in need outweighed the practical aspects of such a trip and continues to fuel her commute twice a month.
“I have no doubt,” Kirby says, “that God guided me to PCHAS. This is the first job that allows me to do the work I’ve done for 20 years with the passion that I have.” She was drawn to PCHAS because it supports children and families after trauma and also works with at-risk families to prevent child abuse and improve self-sufficiency.
A longtime Houston resident, Kirby was hired in April as vice president of finance. President David Thompson started with 92 candidates and, after four rounds of interviews, recommended that Kirby meet the Board of Trustees. The 18 members were impressed with her talents in evaluating organizational needs and improving efficiency. They agreed that her vision and commitment to service were outstanding.
The nonprofit agency based in Austin has 14 programs in 28 locations across three states. Thompson says, “We were looking for extensive financial and management expertise and a leader who excels at solving problems, thinking strategically and building teams. Crystal is the very best fit for PCHAS.”
Kirby has been a finance professional for over 20 years including vice president of finance for a privately owned waste management company. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Houston and an MBA in finance from Our Lady of the Lake University. She is also an elected official serving on the board of directors of a municipal utility district. In her spare time, she volunteers in her community, enjoys reading and spends time with her family.
