This year’s adjustments are a marathon, not a sprint. Here are five tips from Cassie Holt, a licensed counselor and behavioral therapist at PCHAS, to help you and your family keep coping during these difficult times.
- Take care of yourself. If you aren’t healthy you will not be able to help others. This includes taking care of your mental health, not just your physical health. For example, it’s a good idea to set limits on the time you spend watching the news or reading social media. Too much information can heighten anxiety.
- Stay positive. Challenge any negative thoughts you are having and try reframing them.
- Embrace change. It can be hard, it can be stressful, but change can also lead to progress.
- Embrace do-overs! Be forgiving to yourself and others. This is new territory. No one was given a manual on how to deal with the challenges of 2020. We are all learning from our mistakes.
- Ask for help. Your mental health should be a priority, especially during this time.
