Two volunteers recently spent a Saturday morning with six girls in our. After preparing a yummy breakfast, Debra Peachey and Beth Cardoza stayed to bake cookies and had a great time. “The girls always amaze me with their incredible talent,” Debra says. “They are so artistic. We sang a little Christmas music while we baked and had wonderful conversation!”
The holidays are often a difficult time for PCHAS residents, who are teens and young adults aging out of foster care without a permanent family. Debra has been volunteering for five years and typically visits 1-3 times per quarter. “We aim to brighten their day and let them know they are loved,” she explains. “Spending time together makes a difference because it shows these young people that they matter.”
If you're looking for a place to volunteer in the new year, consider time with teens making the transition to independent adulthood. PCHAS offers this program at several locations in Missouri and Texas. Contact our manager ofat .
