Matt and Kelsey Pinson were looking for a new adventure when they became group home parents at the PCHAS campus in Itasca. Matt was leaving the Marines and they wanted to be closer to family in Texas. The job with PCHAS seemed like a perfect fit.
The Pinsons loved being group home parents. They knew that the children in care needed positive life experiences, to witness a healthy family relationship, and to have someone to lean on for support. “We enjoyed getting to know the kids and being there for them when they needed us,” says Kelsey.
Matt and Kelsey never anticipated that adoption would be in their future, but 16-year-old Esmeralda and 12-year-old Kathy officially joined the Pinsons and their 9-month-old, Selah, when they were adopted this month. They had been in foster care for a few years before they moved into Matt and Kelsey’s home at PCHAS.
The Pinsons couldn’t picture their life without Esmeralda and Kathy, and adoption became an obvious next step. Now, they can all be a family forever.
“If you have the heart to love, that’s what these kids need more than anything else,” says Kelsey. “I can’t imagine my life any other way.”
