Communities coming together to respond to a need is a powerful thing. Two PCHAS communities do just that each year to make sure every child has the supplies they need to go back to school. We join with volunteers, churches, businesses and other local nonprofits to ensure that each child has school supplies and the confidence of knowing they’re prepared for the year ahead.
For the past fifteen years, PCHAS has joined with First Presbyterian Church of Kilgore, Texas to give school supplies to children in the community. PCHAS ambassadors and Child and Family specialists Sheila Arnold and Jessica Gramling were on hand during Kilgore ISD’s One-Stop Registration days to pack backpacks full of supplies and give them away. Thanks to generous donors and volunteers, 1,000 children who receive free or reduced lunches went home with school supplies this year!
In Corsicana, Texas, PCHAS Child and Family staff members Ashley Pruitt and Crystal Shepherd lead the community volunteers at the eighth annual Backpacks of Love event. For four days, hundreds of volunteers, along with businesses, churches and other organizations, came together to pack backpacks for children in Navarro County. Approximately 2,700 backpacks full of school supplies were passed out to children in need!
Whether children are in PCHAS’ care or not, we want to make sure their school year gets off on the right foot. We are honored to be a part of such wonderful communities. Because of their generosity, thousands of children will have the tools they need to succeed.
