The State of Missouri values caring for children and families in need. It offers tax credits to encourage citizens to do so, as well. These tax credits went into effect July 1, 2017 and are available on a first-come, first-served basis until the funds are depleted.

The Youth Opportunities Program (YOP) is administered by the Missouri Department of Economic Development. Individual and corporate donors with Missouri tax liability may receive tax credits for their donations to organizations that provide positive youth development programs. Presbyterian Children’s Homes and Services (PCHAS) serves an average of 2,000 children, plus their families, each year in Missouri. We serve children who have suffered from neglect, abuse or abandonment, or simply in need of structure and stability, through therapeutic mentoring, counseling in a family's home, residential treatment, transitional living services and foster care case management.

Effective July 1, 2017, donors who contribute gifts of $1,000 or more earn tax deductions and tax credits. The following chart illustrates the tax benefits of your contribution to PCHAS.

Contributions can be in the form of check, credit card or transfer of appreciated stock. After we receive your donation, we will mail to you a simple YOP application. Return that to PCHAS (along with necessary documentation) and we will submit it to the State.

Within 4-6 weeks (by about Valentine's Day), the State will send you a tax credit certificate equal to 50% of your donation. You can use these tax credits with your next State income tax return -- and you may “roll over” any unused credits for up to five years.

Tax credits are available on a first-come, first-served basis. If you would like to take advantage of these tax savings, don’t wait.
