Presbyterian Children’s Homes and Services began serving children in need when a mother dying of tuberculosis, Leontyne Hector Blaney, approached the pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Dallas and asked if the church would raise her children after she died. The women of the church purchased a home, hired a matron, and the orphanage they created soon welcomed numerous children. Within two years, 300 acres of land in Itasca was donated by the Files family so the fledgling orphanage could serve even more children. From its very first day, PCHAS has gratefully welcomed gifts from “Presbyterian Women’s” groups, “Women of the Church” groups, and other women’s organizations that share its mission to provide care and support to children and families in need. We invite your woman’s organization to join us in this transformative ministry!
