Who was there to make your lunch?
For Shelley, whose parents were in and out of jail, the answer often was "no one." Shelley bounced between the homes of different relatives and was abused by her mom's many boyfriends.
The chaotic situation at home spread to Shelley’s life at school. She was about to be arrested for truancy when she was referred to one of our Child & Family outreach programs. Our specialist immediately saw that Shelley’s rebellious behavior was her way of getting the love and attention she so desperately craved. When we offered her an opportunity to start fresh – to live in a stable home as part of a real family – Shelley jumped at the chance.
You can help Presbyterian Children’s Homes and Services provide children like Shelley with what they need to overcome the trauma of the past and heal the pain no child should endure. Please make a real difference today in the lives of boys and girls by giving generously to our annual back-to-school offering.
Shelley had skipped so many days of school that she was going to be held back. However, with our help, she completed summer school and will begin eighth grade on schedule this fall. To help her stay on track, she will receive professional tutoring and our student education staff will maintain contact with her teachers to monitor her progress.
We know that with your help, Shelley will be on her way to realizing her God-given potential and discovering her own worth. Thank you for making this life-saving ministry possible!
