About Us: Mission, Vision, Values

Dr. Ed Knight, President

“For surely I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord, “plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope.”
- Jeremiah 29:11

At Presbyterian Children’s Homes and Services (PCHAS), we provide young people with hope for a better future. But before someone can work toward a better future, they must first have the opportunity to discover that hope is even a possibility. This type of discovery may happen when an organization is fully committed to serving others with a clear focus on purpose and approach. We do that by understanding our mission, vision, and values.

Mission

Presbyterian Children’s Homes and Services provides a variety of Christ-centered services to children in need and their families.

Vision

We think of our work as creating opportunities for young people to have a future with hope. In much the same way that a church is not a building, and a house is not a home, so it is that to be alive is not the same as having a life with possibilities.
When young people have experienced trauma in various forms, it has a definite impact on them socially, emotionally, educationally, physically and spiritually. We see the same problems when we work with an entire family. Lives of adults, as well as children, can be beaten down by poverty and lack of opportunity.

Our work connects those we serve with the world around them. Children often need to heal from emotional trauma so they can establish healthy relationships with their families. We also focus on helping them overcome educational deficits that may plague them. In our work with families, the goal is to give parents, grandparents and other caretakers the resources and skills they need to ensure a stable future for all.

We help children and their families to realize they can make choices in life and that they can build on their strengths to feel competent and successful. Simply put, we help people blossom when they otherwise might have lived a life of unfulfilled possibilities.

Values

In much of American life, we hear a great deal about the need to change. However, at PCHAS, we focus on values that should never change. Those include things we are instructed to do in Micah 6:8: “Do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with your God.”That is a model for living and leading that should be with us always.
The direct actions of doing justice, loving kindness and walking humbly with our God are carried out by our staff through a philosophy of care that is family centered, strength focused, and goal driven. Each program and service of PCHAS is designed to incorporate these same values. Furthermore they are also reflected in hiring, training, supervision, evaluation and in business practices.
