Maternity Services Adoption Social Worker (Houston)

Position Summary:

The Maternity Services Adoption Social Worker will be responsible for providing support to the PCHAS Homes of St. Mark adoption program. Must meet the standards set by agency policies and will comply with all licensure and accreditation requirements.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Receive intake phone calls from Birthparent clients who are considering placing a child for adoption.
  • Meet with birth parent clients regularly to provide counseling, guidance, adoption materials, and to insure prenatal care is being received.
  • Facilitate adoption planning.
  • Attend any meetings and or court hearings to facilitate a proper and complete placement of children.
  • Work with adoptive families throughout the adoption process, including attending and leading a waiting families support group.

Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to work extended hours when necessary, or occasional evenings or weekends in order to meet the needs of clients.
  • Issues involved are very sensitive and can be high-pressure and stressful.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Education and Experience:

  • Licensed Master Social Worker or license eligible.
  • Bilingual a plus but not necessary.

Skills:

  • Effective listening, oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism in a crisis situation.
  • Advanced assessment and counseling skills.
  • Computer and typing skills, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.

Miscellaneous:

  • A valid Texas driver’s license and reliable vehicle with proof of insurance on that vehicle.
  • Must maintain a professional appearance.
